If you’re in the market for new flooring, you want to make the best choice possible. But with all the options available, you probably have plenty of questions. Here at Best Flooring Orange County, we want to help our discerning clients make the right choice for their flooring needs. We know it’s important to consider all factors, including longevity.

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is an increasingly popular flooring choice. It has a lot of things going for it, like aesthetic appeal, warm foot feel and water resistance. You’ll see LVT described as durable in all sorts of marketing materials, too. But what does that mean, exactly? Does “durable” necessarily mean long-lasting?

How Long Luxury Vinyl Tile Lasts

You’ll need to read the statistics and warrantee information for the type of LVT you’re considering, because not every style and finish has the same level of durability. But in general, if you purchase quality, thick luxury vinyl tile and have it installed properly, you can expect a pretty significant lifespan. Quality product that’s properly installed and well maintained should last 25 or even 30 years.

Note that this lifespan estimate is for residential applications under normal patterns of use. LVT is a great choice in high-traffic or commercial areas. But the more traffic and abuse the flooring sees, the lower its useful life will be.

If our lifespan claims seem too good to be true, remember that LVT isn’t the same as sheet vinyl. Sheet vinyl comes in a variety of thicknesses. This cheap, flexible product doesn’t hold up well and often looks worn after just five to 10 years. Luxury vinyl tile is different, and it really will last this long.
